Do Deadlifts Build Thicker Necks? No; deadlifts don't engage our neck muscles. The neck muscles that contribute most to our neck muscularity are in front of our necks, such as the sternocleidomastoid. These muscles aren't properly trained with any compound lift, including the deadlift.
