Arccos uses sensors on the grip to determine shot distances, location and accuracy to produce stats in all phases of the game much like what is seen in the PGA Tour's ShotLink data.

How does it know the distance? Arccos knows the distance between shots by subtracting two shot locations. For example: If I hit my Driver, it knows that I've hit my Driver, but doesn't know how far I hit it.

When a sensor detects an impact, it sends a signal to the phone's microphone. That signal says something like, “I'm a 5-iron and I just hit a shot.” When the phone receives or “hears” that signal, it uses its GPS capability to make a note of exactly where that shot occurred.
