What are Understable discs good for?

Understable discs are much more speed sensitive than stable or overstable discs. An understable disc will often fly stable to overstable at low speed. Beginners tend to throw discs at lower speeds. For more information on these terms or others, refer to our Glossary of Terms.
When would you use an Understable disc?
Understable discs can be utilized for long panning anhyzer shots that drift from left-to-right the entire flight path. They are great for hyzer flip shots, where you throw the disc on a hyzer release angle. When done right, it will flip up to flat and fly really far before fading softly at the end.
Do you need Understable discs?
Understable discs go farther than overstable discs of a similar speed, so an understable mid can encroach on some fairway drivers, and have zero fade.
What does an Understable driver do?
Lastly, understable discs can be used to get a little bit of extra distance on your throws. The understability allows the disc to stay a little bit straighter before it fades due to more high-speed turn.
Do Understable discs fly farther?
In general, understable discs have a higher glide than overstable models. Glide currently ranges from around 3 to 7. The higher numbers tend to fly farther before the fade takes over turning the disc in the direction opposite to the rotation of the disc.

An understable disc flies with the opposite characteristics than an overstable disc. It has a tendency to turn to the right while the disc is at its highest speed. How much it turns depends on the third number in the four-number flight rating system. Typically, understable discs have a turn rating of -2, -3, or -4.
What makes a disc Overstable or Understable?
Understable means a flight that turns right ( RHBH throw). Stable is a flight that doesn't turn. Overstable refers to a flight that turns left ( RHBH throw). Spike/Spike Hyzer is a shot that lands almost vertically and doesn't skip.
Why do pros use Overstable discs?
When thrown on a hyzer, an overstable disc wants to find the ground. The more stability a disc has, the quicker it will want to dump out of the air and land. This means that the less stability the disc has, the longer it will take to find the ground when thrown on a hyzer.
Why are Understable discs better for beginners?
* Understable discs are the most beginner friendly. * They turn in the same direction of their spin during the initial stages of their flight when thrown flat, straight and with average power.
Why are Overstable discs good for forehand?
Overstable discs cut down on the amount of touch and speed control required to accomplish good shots. This is why they are such a common choice for newer players.
Can you make a disc more stable?
The only other thing you can do to a disc really that may impact the flight for additional stability would be to add or remove dome on a disc. Some molds respond better to this than others and there are many threads on here covering the topic. Generally more dome = more "overstable" or more low speed fade really.
Why do discs turn over?
A disc is turned over when it flies against the natural angle of the disc. For example, an RHBH thrower has turned a disc over if it flies to the right when released flat. This differs from an anhyzer because of the angle of release.
How do I know if my disc is Understable?
Add the numbers of Turn and Fade. If the total is -1 to - 5, it's understable with - 1 being just slightly understable and -5 being very understable. If the total is 0, a disc is straight. If the total is 1 to 5, it's overstable with 1 being straight or just slightly overstable and 5 being extremely overstable.
Is the Sidewinder an Understable disc?
Turn: -3.0. Fade: 1.0. Primary Use: Control Driver. Stability: Understable.
How do you throw a Hyzer Flip?
In the hyzer, the release of the angle should be on the outside edge while the opposite portion of the edge is being tilted downward. For a right hand backhand throw (RHBH) or a left hand forehand (LHFH), this means the left side of the disc is pointed downward.
What is a hyzer throw?
A hyzer flip is a throw where a player releases a disc on a hyzer angle, but the disc turns up to flat or to what most disc golfers would call an "anhyzer" angle (see explanation in a later subsection) during its flight. This sort of shot is typically done with an understable disc.
What is a turnover shot?
It simply refers to a flight path where the disc turns in one direction for the beginning of the flight, then finishes by turning in the other direction. You've like done it before, by accident if not by design.
How do you throw a Heizer?
A Hyzer Flip is thrown using an understable disc on a hyzer angle of release. During flight, the disc “flips up,” or turns up to flat, bringing it's nose down in the process, and allowing for the disc to glide long and straight at the end toward the basket.
How do I make a disc less stable?
Tuning your disc won't make it sound better, but bending the wing can get you some results. Some people say bending the edges down will make a disc understable and bending them up will make it slightly overstable. Other people say never to bend the disc in this manner.
What is PLH disc?
So then, what exactly is Parting Line Height(PLH)?
The Parting Line is the point on the nose(on the wing) of the disc where excess plastic(called flashing) leaks out of the mold during production. Most of this excess is eventually trimmed away so that it isn't uncomfortable to hold the disc.
Can you Hyzer Flip forehand?
All the lessons of learning the backhand hyzerflip can also be used to develop a hyzerflip forehand. As you incorporate this shot into your game, make sure to experiment with a standstill forehand with an understable fairway. It is a great weapon when you have awkward footing or need to hit a tight gap.
Is Understable or Overstable better for forehand?
If you need a forehand to get distance from a standstill, being able to throw a faster, more understable disc is often easier than trying to smash a big flex shot with an overstable one.
