Edge cracks come more from neglect and less from the build of the ski. Sure, if you're hitting urban like Cam Riley, you're going to blow out edges a lot faster than usual, but rarely is there someone skiing at that level.
Can you fix a cracked ski edge?
Clean up the area with sandpaper and a razorblade or chisel, making it as flush as possible. Cut a piece of replacement edge a bit longer than the gap, and use a file to trim it to a snug fit. Put a thin coating of epoxy between the edge and core, and then place the edge in line.

When should I fix my ski base?

For a shallow scratch (less than 0.5mm deep), it's usually OK (and definitely easiest) to ignore it. If your bases have been scratched and repaired many times, bring your skis or snowboard to a shop for a stone grinding.
How do you fix ski edges?
When doing edge replacements, cut the ends of your edge sections at a diagonal angle and it won't pop out as easily with use. To adhere the edge, cut steel wool into fine pieces and mix it with epoxy...it acts like rebar in cement for a stronger bond. Repairing bent ski or snowboard edges can be frustrating.

How often should you wax your skis?
It's recommended you wax your skis every 5 or 6 times out. The reason being the base of your ski is very porous (similar to your skin) with lotion (wax) you'll have a better running surface. This will allow for increased glide over all snow conditions, less leg fatigue and increased speed.
What causes skis to delaminate?
Ski delamination is caused by water entering the composite layers of the ski. Usually, access is caused by damage to the ski, for example, at the ski tip when this accidentally strikes a rock. Once moisture has penetrated the ski it can quickly cause severe damage, especially if the moisture reaches the core.
Can you use a hot glue gun for PTEX?
No a hot glue gun will not work.
Do you need to wax after PTEX?
Registered. Definitely before waxing. As you thought, PTEX candles are made of the same material as the base is made of... so you want the clean the gouge area of any dirt, debris or wax... if you can lightly sand the area to give the new PTEX material some surface to stick on to.
Is PTEX toxic?
If you're holding it high enough to actually drip, that's bad, you'll see the drips light up with the yellow flame as they fall, not good. You can also try texturing the inside of the gouge with a file first, this can help the p-tex stick better. Also work somewhere well ventilated because the p-tex smoke is toxic.
How long do ski edges last?
Artificial snow is more abrasive than natural snow and wears edges faster. Generally, edges grip well for approximately ten days of skiing on natural snow and about half that on artificial or icy snow. Competitive or more demanding users may tune their edges more frequently.
Can ski edges be too sharp?
If you're experiencing such jerkiness, your skis' edges might simply be too sharp. They will improve as the edges dull, but waiting until they dull is frustrating. Take them back to the shop, and ask the tech to dull the edges with emery paper or a gummy stone.
Does rub on ski wax work?
Don't use rub on wax. It's a waste of money and you'll be lucky if the wax lasts more than a few runs. Rub on wax is designed as a temporary solution and it comes off after 2-3 runs leaving you just as slow as before you rubbed on the wax. On the whole, rub on wax just isn't worth the effort.

- Find a good location.
- Secure your skis in the ski vises.
- Deburr the edges.
- File the side edges.
- File the base edges.
- Polish the edges.
- Detune the tip and tail.
Can you wash skis?

Wash the skis with a mild soap, warm water and a sponge. This removes the rust flakes, dirt and grime.
How do you remove rust from ski edges?
Let skis dry individually, as edge to edge contact will promote rusting. If there's rust on the edges, simply rub it off with a gummy stone or some steel wool. Apply a heavy hand wax, and leave it on until you're ready to go skiing again.
