7 speed systems use slightly wider chains, and the teeth on the chainring are slightly wider too. You might run into an issue with a ten speed chain not fitting over the teeth, or at least not fitting well. This is not a maybe. Shimano 6/7/8 speed chainrings will not fit a 10 speed chain.

Can you put a 10 speed cassette on a 7 speed hub?

Condensed answer: If you have a 7-speed specific hub, you won't be able to install a 10-speed cassette on it because the hub will be too short. If the hub isn't 7-speed specific, and actually designed for more speeds, you will be able to install a 10-speed cassette on it.

Can I convert a 7 speed bike to 10 speed?

Yes, in most cases this upgrade is possible, without the need for replacing the rear-wheel hub body, you only need to change the chain, shifter and readjust your rear-derailleur, when upgrading to a super big ratio cassette, you may need to change the rear-derailleur completely to a new one with a wider cage in order ...

Can you use a 9 speed crankset for 7 speed?

You'll Be Fine

As long as the width of the chain matches the rear cogs you have everything will be good. If you have a 7 or 8spd rear end you should run a 7/8spd chain. If you have a 9spd rear end you need to run a 9spd chain. Your current chain will work fine with new or more modern crankset.

How do I know if my crankset is compatible?

In most cases three-and two-piece cranksets are compatible with the same bottom brackets so long as the axle is the same diameter. They are commonly used in conjunction with the mid-style bottom bracket standard. One-piece: This is where the axle and crank arms are a single piece of steel.

How do I know what size crankset to get?

Crank length is measured from the centre of the bottom bracket axle to the centre of the pedal axle. If you're not sure what length the cranks on your bike are, the quickest way of finding out is typically to just look at the backside of your cranks, just below the pedal axle.

Are cranksets interchangeable?

Cranksets are not always interchangeable. Every crank is designed to work with a specific bottom bracket. Even if the cranks use the same interface (octalink, square taper, or hollow tech), switching them between bike brands or even models of the same brand is hard.

Can I use a 10 speed crankset with a 8 speed cassette?

First, to answer the question asked: you can use them physically, but the shifting performance will suffer. Second, there is no limitation on the wheel, for a campy 8 speed hub. Put a 10 speed campy group on the bike. 8/9/10 speed are all the same, unless you truly have a freewheel, as opposed to a cassette.

Are Shimano cranks interchangeable?

Shimano road cranks are interchangeable between other component levels that utilize the dual pinch bolt. Nearly all pinch-bolt style Shimano road cranks are able to be interchanged in equivalent lengths.

Will a 10 speed chain work on an 8 speed crankset?

(10 speed spec) It might 'fit' but shift poorly if the rings are too thick. "Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please." Check the thickness of the chainrings and compare to the width of the chain. (10 speed spec) It might 'fit' but shift poorly if the rings are too thick.

Can a 7 speed bike be converted?

7-speed wheel upgrade summary

Are bike cassettes interchangeable?

In some cases, it is possible to run a cassette from a different brand than the rest of your drivetrain. SRAM and Shimano cassettes, on either road or mountain bike, are interchangeable with each other as the spacing is the same between the sprockets.

What are 7 speed bikes good for?

A 7-speed bike is a great bike for a person who rides on tricky terrain. It's main purpose is to let the bike adapt to rough conditions and accommodate inclines, bumps and other difficulties. On a 7-speed bike, the lower gears make it easier to pedal and the higher gears allow for better movement going downhill.

Can I put a 11 speed cassette on a 7 speed hub?

Can you put any crankset on a bike?

Many chainrings are not compatible across different brands or even across different models for any given brand. Cranksets attach to a frame via bottom bracket, and there are many different types of bottom brackets.

Can I mix Shimano crank arms?

Please note however, if you are mixing and matching crank arms (like a Stages R7000 power meter crank arm on a Shimano Tiagra crankset), the color of the crank arms won't be exactly the same (a cosmetic issue only), but most customers are ok with this.

Are all cranks the same size?

The crank length represents the distance between the centre of the bottom bracket and the centre of the pedal axis. The most common lengths are 170, 172.5 and 175 mm, but it is possible to find cranks between 165 and 180 mm in the market.

Will 10 Speed Replace 8 speed cassette?
